Barry Buffier, Deputy Director General, Department of State & Regional Development and Tourism, Industry & Investment NSW

Barry Buffier was appointed Deputy Director General, State & Regional
Development and Tourism in the NSW Department of Industry and Investment in July 2008 following a major reform of the NSW Public Sector into super-departments. He has responsibility for facilitating business investment;
increasing business competitiveness; advocating for business; marketing the strengths of Sydney and NSW; supporting research, industry and innovation; and advocating and developing tourism.

Barry was previously the Director General of the NSW Department of State and Regional Development, and the Director General of the NSW Department of Primary Industries.

He has an extensive track record in both the private and public sectors in industry development, primary industries, agribusiness and finance. Barry is a Churchill Fellow, a Commissioner with.the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research, and a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. He ix also a member of the NSW Manufacturing Council and is on the board of Tourism NSW, NSW Industry Capability Network, NSW State Contracts Control Board and the Small Business Development Corporation.

 

Professor Paul Simshauser, Chief Economist & Group Head of Corporate Affairs, AGL Energy

Paul Simshauser joined AGL in 2008 as Chief Economist & Group Head of Corporate Affairs. He has overall responsibility for energy regulation, regulated pricing, government affairs, carbon and sustainability.

Paul has 20 years experience in the energy industry having commenced his career with the Queensland Electricity Commission. He previously held senior executive positions at Stanwell Corporation Ltd, NewGen Power and Babcock & Brown.

An Economist by trade, Paul holds Bachelor Degrees in Economics and in Commerce, a Masters Degree in Accounting and Finance, and a PhD in Economics from the University of Queensland. He is a CPA, an AFMA Accredited Dealer and a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. He is also Professor of Finance at Griffith University’s Business School, and is widely published on energy economics in academic journals.

Paul is also the Chairman of Loy Yang Power.

AGL Energy is a leading Australian utility and owns Australia’s largest private portfolio of renewable energy assets.

 

Miles George, Managing Director, Infigen Energy Ltd

Miles George is the Managing Director of Infigen Energy, having previously been the Chief Executive Officer since 2007. Miles has over 15 years experience in the infrastructure and energy sectors, and in particular renewable energy development and investment.

Since 2000 Miles has been involved in the development and financing of wind energy projects in Australia - including a key role in the development of Infigen’s first wind farm at Lake Bonney in South Australia.

Miles jointly led the establishment of the business now known as Infigen in 2003 and the implementation of the Initial Public Offer and listing of the business on the ASX in 2005. Following listing he advised the business on wind farm investments in Australia and overseas. He was subsequently appointed as Chief Executive in 2007.

Miles holds degrees of Bachelor of Engineering and Master of Business Administration (Distinction) from the University of Melbourne.

Infigen Energy is Australia's leading specialist renewable energy company.

 

Byram Johnston OAM - Independent Non-Executive Chairman, Greencap Ltd

Byram Johnston is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Chief Executive Officer of MainstreamBPO, board member of the Garvan Research Foundation, a member of the ASIC Audit Committee, and is involved in a number of other corporate and government boards and committees.

He has previously been the Managing Partner, Arthur Anderson, Sydney and the Managing Partner Asia Pacific for PA Consulting Group.

He has a strong advisory and consulting background, and extensive commercial experience having worked in Japan, Korea, Taiwan, China, Hong Kong, Thailand, Philippines, Malaysia, India, New Zealand, and Fiji.

He has solid experience in public company boards, strong commercial skills and demonstrated strategic planning expertise.

Greencap is a leading Australian risk management consultant helping to protect people, property and environments.

 

David Cooper, General Manager, CBD Energy

David Cooper joined CBD Energy in July 2010 as General Manager. David works closely with CBD Managing Director, Gerry McGowan, and oversees the day-to-day operations of CBD across its projects and activities in renewable energy and energy services, as well as assisting with investor relations.

Previously, he was Associate Director of GE Corporate Financial Services with GE Capital, joining six years ago. David worked in GE's Aircraft Finance and Structured Finance groups. Before GE Capital, David was an analyst with a stockbroking firm.

Mr Cooper has a B.Agr.Ec from Sydney University and a Graduate Diploma - Applied Finance and Investment Analysis from FINSIA.

CBD Energy is a leading Australian solar energy, wind energy and power storage business.

 

Robert Schuitema, Managing Director, Phoslock Water Solutions Ltd

Robert Schuitema joined Phoslock in 2005 as a director and became the Managing Director in 2007. He has responsibility for growing Phoslock's customer business globally and production at its factory in China.

Phoslock Water Solutions manufactures and distributes a CSIRO developed water treatment product for use in lakes, rivers, reservoirs, storm water and aquaculture to permanently lock up phosphorus and make it bio unavailable for algal growth.

Robert holds degrees of Bachelor of Commerce & Administration from Victoria University and is a Certified Public Accountant. Robert was a banker for over 20 years, initially with Barclays Bank then JPMorgan Chase where he was Managing Director of the bank's Mining & Metals division for Asia/Pacific.

Phoslock is a world leader in managing phosphorus pollution to restore water quality in lakes and reservoirs.

 

Thomas Rudas, Managing Director, AnaeCo Ltd

Thomas Rudas is the inventor of the patented DiCOM process, as well as a founder and Managing Director of AnaeCo Ltd, the company incorporated to develop and commercialize his invention.

Mr Rudas has been responsible for the company’s research and development program, development and management of the intellectual property assets as well as commercialization and business strategy development and implementation.

During 15 years of his professional career in the waste management industry, he was involved in various projects including development, commissioning and operation of a large-scale anaerobic digestion and composting system for municipal solid waste and setting up waste management systems for ALCOA.

Mr Rudas has Degrees in Biochemistry from the University of Western Australia and Environmental Biotechnology from Murdoch University. He also holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Western Australia.

AnaeCo is Australia's leading developer of systems for producing bioenergy from municipal waste.

 

Paul McPherson, Executive Chairman, MediVac Ltd

Paul McPherson was appointed a Non Executive Director of MediVac in August, 2006 and Executive Chairman in December, 2007

Paul has extensive experience in senior strategy development and implementation roles – Marketing, Sales, Commercial and General Management – with blue chip corporations such as Mars Inc, Bowater, Inchcape & Arnott’s. He has had hands on experience in Australia/ New Zealand, Europe, Japan, and Asian markets.

Paul has run his own consultancy practice – PDM Solutions Pty Ltd – which specialises in assignments in strategy formulation and planning, board effectiveness, business alignment and performance management. He has undertaken major consulting and facilitation projects in Australia, Japan and Asia Pacific.

He has worked and consulted in a diverse range of industries including food and non-food fast moving consumer goods, wine/ liquor, consumer electronics, importing/ exporting and facilities management.

Paul holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting, Finance & Systems) from the University of New South Wales and has completed the AICD Company Directors’ course.

Richard Caldwell, Executive Chairman, Dyesol Ltd

In his role as Executive Chairman of the Board of Dyesol Ltd, Richard takes executive responsibility for finance, mergers and acquisitions, and investor relations, as well as assisting in substantial contract negotiations.

Richard has an established record in corporate advice to many successful emerging growth companies, particularly in the telecommunications, technology and biotechnology sectors. In addition, he has a strong transaction history in the oil and gas, resources and infrastructure sectors.

Richard recently resigned as Head of Corporate Finance and Equity Capital Markets at StoneBridge in Sydney - a position he held for five years. Before StoneBridge, he spent seven years at Burdett Buckeridge Young where he became a significant shareholder and held the position of Head of Equity Capital Markets. During his 25 year career in financial markets, Richard has also held senior management positions at Citibank, Sydney and JP Morgan, London.

Richard is a founder and director of AiMedics Pty Ltd, a biomedical devices spin-off from the University of Technology, Sydney and he is an Honorary Governor of the Sydney Medical School Foundation, Sydney University - Australia's largest private medical research foundation. He is also a visiting fellow of Macquarie University where he teaches the Masters in Applied Finance.

He is a BEc, LLB and F.Fin.

Kerry Rooney, Global Industry Network Leader, Clean Energy & Environment Theme, Austrade

Kerry Rooney is the Global Leader for Clean Energy and Environment at Austrade, the Government's trade and investment agency.

Kerry is leading the implementation of the Australian Government's strategy for clean energy trade and investment. Kerry's team in Australia works closely with Austrade's overseas posts to attract foreign direct investment into Australia and supports a global network of export advisers and business development managers who work with Australian companies to realise their international business needs.

Prior to joining Austrade in 2008, Kerry was the General Manager for Technology and Manufacturing at Invest Australia, the Australian Government's former inward investment agency, focusing on investment in biotechnology, ICT and advanced manufacturing. As part of her 25 year career with the Australian Government, Kerry was also the General Manager responsible for tourism business development in the Department of Industry, Tourism and Resources.

Austrade is the Australian government's trade and investment development agency with offices in all key international cleantech and clean energy markets.

 

James Thier, Executive Director, Australian Ethical Investment Ltd

James Thier is an Executive Director of Australian Ethical Investment L:td and a director of its wholly-owned subsidiary, Australian Ethical Superannuation. He has helped the company grow from an idealistic concept 23 years ago to now managing more than $550 million on behalf of 18,000 managed funds and superannuation investors across Australia.

Mr Thier is also a director of the not-for-profit Centre for Australian Ethical Research and was a founding board member of the Ethical Investment Association (now the Responsible Investment Association of Australia), an industry body.

James recently undertook a Churchill Fellowship to study shareholder advocacy mechanisms in the United States and Europe, in particular resolutions proposed at annual general meetings.

Philip Galloway, Investment Manager, CVC Sustainable Investments

Philip Galloway is Portfolio Manager for CVC Sustainable Investments, which he joined in mid 2010.

Philip has a track-record in developing and leading companies in the energy and cleantech sectors. This includes establishing an ASX listed oil and gas company and a private green energy development company.

He has also held senior positions at BHP Billiton, Esso Australia, Credit Suisse First Boston and CRA Ltd. At BHP Billiton he was a global Vice President in both the aluminium and petroleum divisions. He was also part of the team that merged BHP with Billiton and he led the transaction to outsource BHP’s power operations.

At Credit Suisse First Boston, Philip led a number of large transactions in the power and energy sector and was an advisor in the privatisation of Victoria’s electricity industry.

Philip trained as an engineer, and the first five years of his career were spent in design and project management roles at mine sites in Australia and Papua New Guinea with CRA Ltd.
